This book is written by a photographer for photographers but I find that his way of talking about color and light totally fits the digital painter needs. It contains sections about color language and symbolism (each colour is discussed in detail), temperature, saturation and brightness, classic color schemes, harmony, unusual combinations and the effect on people. Plus some technical chapters about monitor regulations and color spaces. I chose this book for its simple and clear content organization and the beautiful pictures but I discovered so much more.

My love for charcoal was born reading this book. The master artist and teacher starts with a wonderful specific section about quality of the line related to arm, hand and wrist motion while doing drawings and quick studies from models. He explains his method with step by step samples and demonstrations about how to approach head and full figure sketches. So many tips and tricks for a painterly rendering with charcoal plus his style is mesmerizing and I consider this one an artbook as well as an educational book. I’ve found it during my daily websurfing and I’ve been more than happy to buy it by instinct without reading anything before. Absolutely worthy.
